Chicago Training Plan

Last year for my first marathon I worked with a coach, this year I'm relying on Runners World Smart Coach to get me through. I'm already dreading my 8 miler this weekend (kidding).

I'm actually pretty excited to start my training.  I have been pulling big numbers between the half and the10 miler so I'm mentally prepared for the distance.  I'm hoping the lack of a coach will not deter me from getting my workouts in.  I know I am better when I am accountable to another human, but  I feel confident in the athlete I have become and am sure that I will not skimp out on training.  Plus I have a loft goal - a 4:20 marathon (A goal), but honestly I will be happy with anything under 4:30 (B goal) and of course my ultimate goal is to train and finish injury free!

I already know that I will be adding in hill work (thank you Selden Hills) which I was completely missing last year, I also want to try to add in a track workout. I think I can make both of those things happen at least 2 - 3x per month plus a yoga class to keep me all bendy (maybe I should make this my monthly goals post?). And I already anticipate being at least 10 lbs thinner than my last full (if not more, I"m already down 7 #crossingfingers) so I should be a speed demon by Oct!

Oh April, Where Did You Go?

It's been quite the month, lots of stuff happened which led me to be a little quiet on the blogging front. But WOW, when I think about it, the month flew by!  I had a hefty list of goals to conquer and while I didn't make them all, I'm happy with the progress made.

First things first, I'm down about 5 pounds! FINALLY.

Here is the story with that - stomach flu was the catalyst (yuck), I gave up caffeine (14 days!), decided to commit to working with a health coach (yay for accountability) and have really cleaned up my food (limiting all whites big time).

Hooray for me.

Ok, so the other goals...well let's just say I was crazy in my head, no yoga, didn't commit to a tri but I did kick a little ass at work, I ran the hills and got in one swim per week. Boom!

Ok May, here is is....

Continue to lose weight
Continue to kick work's ass
Stretch or get back to yoga, I'm waaaay too tight
Get on the bike
Smile more often
Keep up with my morning readings to help stay out of my head, feel my feelings about the breakup (woa sappy)

Tonight I'm back to the hills then a swim tomorrow then rest or light activity...Long Island Half is Sunday and while I'm using it as a training run, I don't want to have dead legs. I'm excited for this race, have never ran it and it's a biggie.  I'll rep my new "hills" team shirt and hopefuly kick some ass!

April Goals

I should just change the name of these posts to weight loss hopes and dreams, lol.

March was a great month, I met just about all of my goals with the exception of the half, which I'm OK with. Plus it rained like crazy that day so I was pretty pumped I had decided to ski instead. I did curb my sugar for like a day, that counts, right?

Ok, so onward to April:
Keep running the hills, commit to every Weds. night hill running with The Selden Hills team
Circuit boxing class every Tue
Swim at least once a week

These are too easy...

Now for the biggies:

LOSE weight!!!! Staying the same weight is no longer acceptable
Stay out of my head
Get back on my bike
Commit to a tri (I'm thinking Tobay)
Kick ass at work
Get back to some type of yoga...my mat is calling my name

LOSE WEIGHT.

:)

It's GOALS Time!

Still going strong with the Monthly Goals posting and I have to say February was the most successful yet! I pretty much met each one which I'm psyched about.

Here were the goals:
  • Reign it in. Enough talking about it, more DOING it!
  • Crossfit/run/spin repeat
  • Try to fit in some yoga
  • Lose some weight!
  • Help my parents with their computer, uploading pics to Facebook ect...this is actually easier said than done, but I WILL do this for them!
I did all but yoga, and the weight thing is debatable, possibly 1 pound, but I'll take it!
I also made some huge decisions:
So what's up for March? Here goes:
  • Run the half that I have been going back and forth on
  • Log some longer runs so I don't hurt myself while running the above mentioned half
  • Ski (oh how I miss my ski house...and snow for that matter!) and if a ski trip falls on the weekend of the above half, it's ok to not run and ski!
  • Continue to get my swim on
  • Spend some time with my parents - I never see them anymore!!
  • Continue with the no sugar (or to be specific dessert, and limit my froyo consumption)
  • Curb my spending
What are your goals for March?

Gung Ho!

February has certainly started off on the right foot..

Crossfit last night, spin class this morning...feeling good and on track. I'm also thinking about signing up for Chicago, but I'm guessing I will have to do it soon before the race closes, so my cheap ass needs to figure out if I want to do it. The other thing to consider is I will probably go solo...I do know a few people who have signed up so I can always tag along. I'm thinking this might happen....

Ok, so onto the goals for the month:

Reign it in. Enough talking about it, more DOING it!
Crossfit/run/spin repeat
Try to fit in some yoga
Lose some weight!
Help my parents with their computer, uploading pics to Facebook ect...this is actually easier said than done, but I WILL do this for them!

January Recap

So aside from this being the warmest January EVER, even with one snow fall, I managed to not at all dominate my goals, but rather gain a few pounds.

I did, however, manage to:

Ski in the rain

Ski in the sun

Hold a baby

Run a few races

With all that fun, I must be doing something right! And I did manage to keep up with Crossfit and running, even with one week off to rest the knee. Work stuff was better and overall I had a fun, productive month. I have to say a big "so what" to the food. I may not have lost any weight, and may have gained a pound or two, but I'm ok with it, and am determined to make some big changes for February! Sooo take that stupid weight gain!

Goals Update

Since the 2nd week of Jan is pretty much close to being over (huzzah weekend!) I figured I'd post my Jan goals progress.

So far not too terrible, but not too great either.

Eating in has been a success. I have had all but 2 meals home cooked - thai sun and a work lunch yesterday. Feeling pretty good about that one!

No spin or yoga, but that's really because of my knee acting up, same with the running, I'd like to be running a bit more, although technically I ran 2 races so I'm on track.

Totally killing Crossfit, making 3 workouts a week has been a breeze.

Junky carbs, not too great. I had 2 bagels this week and a lot of cookies. Hoping all that salad for lunch will even things out (crossing fingers).

Work goals have been somewhat on track, that to do list will always be the death of me!

Life goals, still working on that! Ha, but I am reading my reader a bit more.

Overall I'm doing it! BUT I need to really focus on the food which is always the case.

2012 Race Goals

I've been thinking a lot about racing and what exactly I want to accomplish this year.

For the first time ever I was super dedicated to running. Training for the marathon completely changed my outlook on the how/when/where and the why of why I run. I was focused and determined, but still had fun and even slacked a little. I accomplished my goal and have continued to run which was priority #1 for me - keep going after the big day.

I'm not totally clear on what I want to for '12, but I do know there is a triathlon in there along with a bunch of half marathons. I'm playing around with a fall marathon - maybe Hartford or Steamtown, but I'm not sure. I'm also going to try and run 9 NYRR races to qualify for the 2013 NYC marathon. This is more time consuming than anything, but I'm pretty sure I can handle it. It's a pain traveling into the city to run, but I actually enjoy NYRR races so it should be doable. Plus I love that they have a ton of half marathons throughout the year and I really want to run NYC for '13.

As far as specific race day goals go, I think my #1 is to run a 2 hour half. I'll have a bunch of chances to do it, and I think I can shave 10 minutes off my time. I'm a better runner in all areas so I think this is totally attainable (gulp!!). Aside from that, I'm not sure...but I have time to think about it :)

So far this is what I have going on for January:
The Winter run Series (4 Sundays in Jan)
1/7 - Joe Klienerman 10k
1/21 - Manhattan Half Marathon

January Goals

Ahh, January! I'm not a huge New Years resolutions gal, but I am digging the monthly goal posts that a lot of bloggers do. It kept me sort of accountable for December and for that I'm pretty happy.

Before I go into January, here is a December recap:

I accomplished some of the list, although I didn't Crossfit 4x a week, I did kick it up a bit, I had a date (but then got back with my boy), reduced my bad carbs (with only a few bagels for good measure), managed only 1 spin class and no yoga, but did get in my 2 runs per week. Overall it was a good month and I'm glad I laid out a plan.

So for January, I'm going to do a repeat of December with a few additions to spice things up:

Fitness Goals:
Crossfit 3x per week (4x is just too hard to do all the time, but I can for sure do 3)
Run at least 2x per week
Spin 1x per week
Yoga 1x per week

Food Goals:
Eat in more
Continue to limit bagels and pizza

Work Goals:
Not be as bitchy as I have been (last week I was a nighmare! Sorry boss lady)
Focus more on work, not the internet
Clear some of my huge "to-do later" to-do list

Life Goals:
Focus on me more, not the boy
Meditate
Read my daily reader every day!

I think this all pretty manageable and a lot of it I'm already doing so I should be good to go!

What about you? Any goals for the month?

The ULTIMATE December Goal

I have to start posting a bit more, my blog is lacking variety, my last 3 posts have been about December goals. I guess I'm overly excited about this.

Ok, well, I'm super excited to let you all know that the one goal I wasn't sure I'd make, I made.

I went on a date.

(crickets?)

And I think I like him.

(cheers?)

I joined Match on Tue, date by fri. Not too shabby.

He works about a block away so we went for pizza, nice and easy. He's cute, funny, a little cocky and something different. We shall see where it goes, but for now I'm happy that I met a goal I wasn't sure I'd make.

Maybe it's true what they say, if you blog abut it, it will happen? (Field of Dreams reference...anyone?).

December Goals

I love reading "goal" posts. Beth always does this, as does Danielle and I really look forward to seeing how well they and others bloggers do, makes me feel super motivated about my own stuff.

So.....

For December I will:
Crossfit 4x per week
Run at least 2 times per week
Spin 1x per week
Yoga 1x per week

This means doubles some days. I'm ok with that and I'm talking 3 miles here and there, nothing too crazy, I want to see how I progress with Crossfit now that I'm at the new box.

Eat less meals out
Focus on seriously reducing my (bad) carb intake

Go on at least 1 date

I think these are all totally attainable, the challenge will be finding a balance with my working out vs. my other life stuff. I'm pretty sure if I can get up early for some of my workouts I can do this.

The food stuff is already off to a good start, I have made all my meals since Tuesday and am already down a few pounds (I think those "5" were mainly water weight from eating out too much).

My most exciting goal: 1 date - game is on!!!!!
